I met Shida during my first trip to Kenya. He arrived back to the Sheldrick stockades with a gash to his side and a prolapsed rectum...poor boy. We speculate that it must have been the result of a tussle with one of the wild adult rhinos. After numerous visits from the vet, stitching and re-stitching, the prolapse looked like it was never going to heal, and that the stitches were never going to hold. And then, the stitches were sewn so tight, that Shida was unable to have a bowel movement a few days after I arrived. Seeing Shida bearing down in pain, I decided to do a session with him. The vet showed up and removed the stitches, so that Shida could finally have some relief. And somehow, miraculously, the prolapse stay tucked away, and Shida no longer needed any stitches at all.
